What open transport means
Your vehicle travels on an open trailer. It is exposed to outdoor conditions during the trip, so arrive at the decision knowing what level of protection you want. Open transport does not describe a specific truck, guaranteed loading position or pickup date.
Is it a good fit for your vehicle?
Start with the vehicle's actual dimensions and condition. A standard daily driver and a lifted pickup can need different space or loading arrangements even on the same route. Tell the provider about roof accessories, oversized tires, suspension changes, leaks or low clearance.
If protection from weather and road debris is a priority, compare enclosed transport. Neither method makes damage impossible, and coverage depends on the assigned carrier's policy and accepted terms.
What affects the written quote?
Distance alone does not establish the total. Locations, vehicle size, running condition, dates, equipment and current availability all matter. A narrow pickup window or a hard-to-access location needs to be discussed before you agree to a shipment.
Ask for the total price and payment schedule in writing, and ask what could require a revised quote. Do not assume that a planning estimate fixes the final price.
Before pickup
- Check that the carrier can safely reach the agreed meeting point.
- Remove valuables and ask about any permitted items and weight limits.
- Photograph the vehicle and document existing damage with the driver.
- Keep the required keys available and follow the carrier's preparation instructions.
